The temperature was such to create heat stroke, and as I was in the car for two hours, I needed a way to stay cool. It is a myth that you get heat stroke just by being in a vehicle. I put my survival knowledge to use.

Earlier, on my arrival. Air-conditioning off, I was cooler in the car than outside air was. Once, again it got me thinking.

What I did was insulation. I put up that reflective tinfoil on the wind shield, and covered the windows with a cotton jersey, and my wind breaker from Pringle. I then opened all the windows, and created the right amount of space to create a through breeze.

Early man would spend his days in caves. They provide insulation against hot and against cold. Houses used to be built to insulate against weather, at certain angles, in certain ways.

This morning when I woke up I put blankets over my curtains, pulled blinds too. One blanket I attached to the window on the top of one side and closed it, the other was over.

Already, with only my fan on, and even with my window open, and light on: my room is cooler than the rest of the house. The wall of insulation against the outside is doing what my fan alone could not.

Mine is the only bedroom in the house without air conditioning. A simple survival trick I knew to use to spend two hours in desert like temperatures in the Waterberg, has now lead to an experiment.

Blankets keep heat in and out. A few layers of insulation and my 1970's or '80's fan is able to keep me as cool as in winter or spring.

Especially up on the hill where I live.

Perhaps I will have to wait for a sunny day for the full test. It is raining and nearby Johannesburg is on 15 degrees according to the weather on my phone. It is set to reach 25 degrees today. Where I am it is 5 degrees hotter than on road level it should be interesting to test.

If the insulation by curtains isn't enough (my house has brick walls 4 layers about thick), then I will move to put soil in bags above my room in the ceiling, if fire safe or some other method. Either way, what worked in Mpumalanga, ought work here!

Not Carbon Based Global Warming After All- Nasa DATA Study
Article by Marc Aupiais

Forbes reports (And please note, additional research by our service shows they chose to publish it under their online blogs section)
New NASA Data Blow Gaping Hole In Global Warming Alarmism 27 / 28 July 2011
James Taylor
http://news.yahoo.com/nasa-data-blow-gaping-hold-global-warming-alarmism-192334971.html

The study, by the University of Alabama, based on Satellite Data claims that "Global Warming" caused by carbon trapping heat in the atmosphere is so minimal as to be negligible. The research, if noted by Carbon model proponents is sure to be hotly disputed.

As I reported recently, the Daily Mail, reported on a press release by the University of East Anglia, saying that most of the temperature DATA used to correlate with carbon levels in the polar ice, on which global warming claims are based, was destroyed by scientists in the 1980s, British media also reported on great inaccuracies in climate change claims involving the Himalayas, and other regions. The Daily Mail, and other media also recently reported that Earth is set to enter a mini-ice age, due to a temporary lack of Sun Spots (a phenomena discovered by Galileo centuries ago, which then lead to a 2 degrees centigrade reduction in temperatures). Media claiming climate science was in peril include: Daily Mail, the Times and Sunday Times, and the Telegraph in Britain, the first and last still claiming global warming as real.

c.f. January 24, 2010
UN wrongly linked global warming to natural disasters

Sunday Times

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article7000063.ece

November 29, 2009

Climate change data dumped

Jonathan Leake, Environment Editor

"SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based."

Sunday Times

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/environment/article6936328.ece

Eminent geophysicist rejects global warming theory, says world on verge of ‘mini ice age’

BY MATTHEW CULLINAN HOFFMAN

LifeSiteNews

Fri Feb 18, 2011 22:48 EST

http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/eminent-geophysicist-rejects-global-warming-theory-says-world-on-verge-of-m?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=Feed:+LifesitenewscomLatestHeadlines+(LifeSiteNews.com+Latest+Headlines)&utm_content=FaceBook

Blow to ‘global warming’ - Study: many Himalayan glaciers are growing or stable

BY MATTHEW CULLINAN HOFFMAN

LifeSiteNews

Mon Feb 07, 2011 19:48 EST

http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/another-blow-to-global-warming-many-himalayan-glaciers-are-growing-or-stabl

Climate change not linked to African wars

Quirin Schiermeier

Nature Magazine

Published online 6 September 2010 | Nature | doi:10.1038/news.2010.451

http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100906/full/news.2010.451.html

Climate change scandal deepens as BBC expert claims he was sent leaked emails six weeks ago

By CAROL DRIVER

Last updated at 11:36 AM on 26th November 2009

Daily Mail

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1230943/Climate-change-scandal-BBC-expert-sent-cover-emails-month-public.html#ixzz1TQ3X0zHF

John Beddington: chief scientist says climate change sceptics 'should not be dismissed'

The Telegraph; (July 26, 2011) — Data from NASA’s Terra satellite shows that when the climate warms, Earth’s atmosphere is apparently more efficient at releasing energy to space than models used to forecast climate change have been programmed to “believe.”

The result is climate forecasts that are warming substantially faster than the atmosphere, says Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist in the Earth System Science Center at The University of Alabama in Huntsville.

The previously unexplained differences between model-based forecasts of rapid global warming and meteorological data showing a slower rate of warming have been the source of often contentious debate and controversy for more than two decades.

In research published this week in the journal “Remote Sensing” http://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/3/8/1603/pdf, Spencer and UA Huntsville’s Dr. Danny Braswell compared what a half dozen climate models say the atmosphere should do to satellite data showing what the atmosphere actually did during the 18 months before and after warming events between 2000 and 2011.

“The satellite observations suggest there is much more energy lost to space during and after warming than the climate models show,” Spencer said. “There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans.”

Not only does the atmosphere release more energy than previously thought, it starts releasing it earlier in a warming cycle. The models forecast that the climate should continue to absorb solar energy until a warming event peaks. Instead, the satellite data shows the climate system starting to shed energy more than three months before the typical warming event reaches its peak.

“At the peak, satellites show energy being lost while climate models show energy still being gained,” Spencer said.

This is the first time scientists have looked at radiative balances during the months before and after these transient temperature peaks.

Applied to long-term climate change, the research might indicate that the climate is less sensitive to warming due to increased carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere than climate modelers have theorized. A major underpinning of global warming theory is that the slight warming caused by enhanced greenhouse gases should change cloud cover in ways that cause additional warming, which would be a positive feedback cycle.

Instead, the natural ebb and flow of clouds, solar radiation, heat rising from the oceans and a myriad of other factors added to the different time lags in which they impact the atmosphere might make it impossible to isolate or accurately identify which piece of Earth’s changing climate is feedback from manmade greenhouse gases.

“There are simply too many variables to reliably gauge the right number for that,” Spencer said. “The main finding from this research is that there is no solution to the problem of measuring atmospheric feedback, due mostly to our inability to distinguish between radiative forcing and radiative feedback in our observations.”

For this experiment, the UA Huntsville team used surface temperature data gathered by the Hadley Climate Research Unit in Great Britain. The radiant energy data was collected by the Clouds and Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES) instruments aboard NASA’s Terra satellite.

The six climate models were chosen from those used by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The UA Huntsville team used the three models programmed using the greatest sensitivity to radiative forcing and the three that programmed in the least sensitivity."

July 26 University of Alabama

The New Old Environmentalism: A Sea-Change in Western Conservatives towards old style Conservationism

(World Tainted Green)

Article by Marc Aupiais

I was amazed to see the article, in a pro-life, conservative, Canadian publication. It didn't front global warming, which given that that conveyor belt of the sea will be replaced by a Southern African heat source if it collapses, really is the correct term again. It just promoted sustainable development, Something we as South Africans always do: traditional environmentalism, which like traditional liberalism (I am a liberal), is only a good thing.

"In fact, this is this sort of common sense revelation that my young pro-life friends seem to be increasingly having. Things like: that the West is producing and consuming non-essential goods at such a breakneck speed that it will inevitably run straight off an environmental and economic cliff if it doesn’t stop, soon; that it is neither healthy nor humane to eat eggs or meat that come from animals that are packed by the thousands into windowless, airless food factories and fed genetically modified grains; that it is a lot more fun and educational to grow your own food, etc.

"What we are witnessing is a new, and, I believe, commendable backlash against two different excesses: that of a radical form of capitalism that views incessant wealth creation as the primary purpose of human life, and that of a radical environmentalism that views humans as little more than a pest to be carefully controlled or even eliminated.

"Fundamentally I believe this backlash is fueled by one simple, self-evident, but critical fact: that this is the only earth we have, and its resources are necessarily limited. Eco-extremists view this limitedness as a reason to stop humans from reproducing at all, to “save the planet.” Pro-life environmentalists, on the other hand, view this limitedness as a reason to exercise self-restraint and intelligence in the way we consume resources for the sake of future generations - to “save the humans.”"

(LifeSiteNews: Canadian; Independent but pro-life; Pro-life; Pro-family; pro-Subsidiarity)

Article link: 8th June 2011

If only our American pro-life friends would have the same awakening about Eastern slave labour, and debt based economies: whereby those without ability to get debt cheques go through their government to China. Fact is, social security in the West ought to be replaced by micro-loans. If anything, the aid dumping by Unicef, et al and the way it has wrecked African economies should serve this purpose: to alert America as to what the storm is they are fighting: one of their own making!

NSPCA / SPCA Treating dogs negligently
Article by Marc Aupiais

Our service has a reliable report of mistreatment of an animal taken for treatment due to a curable disease to the SPCA (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), who were paid to treat it:

" We took our puppy of 3 months to the spca's vet they took the dog in. The dog was full of his own vomit and diarrhea and he was having difficulty breathing. They don't [care]. We took our other dogs to the vet in florida. Al Gore whose climate change documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" has since been found to hold faulty science, such as in the Hockey Stick Graph, has also recently come under heavy scrutiny, causing two major sources of press releases and information on Climate Change theories to have been called into question. An in-house United Nations (UN) review of practices of the IPCC, has called for clear procedures, shorter terms, a formal structure, more scientific methods, and other procedural and structural changes. It especially asked for strict procedures on conflicts of interest.

Scholarly concerns about vagueness of guidelines on source materials were also cited.

Investigations by the British press, have found that the IPCC:

- has cited an unpublished study to claim that natural disasters were caused by alleged climate change, the study changed its finding before being published, under peer review.

- cited an article on deforestation, to claim that climate change would affect forest growth, when the paper dealt clearly with direct deforestation and not the affect of climate on trees.

- Quoted a press release by the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), an environmental special interests promotion group, as a source.

- Quoted a hiking magazine on glaciers.

- Referenced a local Indian magazine, which quoted a scientist as saying that the glaciers of the Himalayas which support one billion people, would disappear by the year 2035:

-- an incorrect statistic, but reportedly correctly attributed to the scientist,

--however, the IPCC, attributed the article to American magazine New Scientist, instead of local Indian press.

---The given scientist seemingly has an interesting monetary relationship to the climate change enriched IPCC chair Rajendra Pachauri.

- Admitted in response to them that the Himalayas glaciers will not disappear by 2035, according to scientists, the Himalayas ice won't even disappear by 2350.

While the University of East Anglia, at the centre of what media labelled Climate Gate for lack of imagination:

- has admitted, in response to an Access to Information request that its temperature data, which through years of study is said to show an increase in global temperatures, does not exist: rather, the original data was tossed years ago when the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) moved building decades ago. The data from around the world, was homogenized: adapted due to how it was collected, in accordance with the bias of those homogenizing it.

--Thus, the greatest body of proof of rising temperatures, correlating with carbon levels in ice caps, cannot be verified by independent review.

- has come under fire, along with global scientists connected with the IPCC, for emails, which the Daily Mail alleges were likely hacked by Chinese government hackers, which reportedly show conspiracy to skew the peer review process, and prevent any scientific scepticism from being published.

One estimate has about 75% of scientific papers supporting the theory that climate change is majority caused by greenhouse gas emissions, while about 25% cite other possible alternative causes.

Some sceptics cite the theory of natural causes, relying on historic records, to claim that during the Middle ages, Europe was much hotter than today. Others link rises in temperature to the sun. When Galileo Galilei, first spotted "sun spots", this was followed by a period when there were none for years, and by a reduction in global temperature by about 2 percent, causing some to fear that astronomical or solar events may be partially responsible for claimed rises in temperatures. Other sceptics have pointed to a lack in rises in temperatures over recent years.

Sceptics, in comparison to deniers, are scientific in nature, these are mostly the sort who would prefer additional research be done both into the claims of a strong Greenhouse Effect, and into alternative theories, to strengthen or show false the currently weakened case that certain gases have a greenhouse effect on a planetary scale.

Another possible cause cited is urbanization, which upsets natural soil environments, which have different claimed effects on local temperatures, as well as the effect of concrete and steel and glass on temperatures. While the effects on carbon dioxide in the lab on a small scale are indisputable, it is still not confirmed what effect slight additions to the carbon dioxide on the global scale have.

It is this bundle of questions, which have caused politicians to shy away from any drastic action on climate change, accompanied with the secretiveness and political language of the climate change movement. The politicization of climate change, as a platform for the far left, including those supporting reductions in human population, and those advocating taxes on rich nations to support poorer nations, has also given those who choose not to act further ammunition.

Projects such as one by the European Union, seemingly to study global temperatures and ice bodies, and other more modern projects, may start to rebuild the case for anthropological climate change theory. However, the damage done by the IPCC, and by individuals such as Al Gore, is very serious. Links between the head of the IPCC, which really is an informal committee set up to aid climate treaties; and his massive consulting business ventures have also not helped. That Al Gore, whose Inconvenient Truth movie was widely publicized by enviromentalists, inconvenient: was his movie's incorrect portrayal of climate data, has also been substantially enriched by his views.

While climate change research has been pushed back to its infancy by revelations of lost data, and of politicization, if the new UN recommendations are implemented, and implicated scientists replaced, much can be done to encourage action on possible climate ramifications.

The UN review, which focussed on procedure not function, according to French Government service AFP, called the IPCC largely successful.

Bush to the Katrina hurricane disaster, Barack Obama took the opportunity, to justify his response to the Oil leak, noting: that the burning of oil, etc had prevented it from coming ashore, and fully defending his and BP's response.

According to British service Reuters, and those concerned with oceanography:

"The Exxon Valdez accident in Alaska in 1989 spilled around 10 million gallons.

Simon Boxall, an expert at Britain's National Oceanography Center who has helped analyze various major oil spill cleanups, said several detailed experiments had been conducted since the Exxon Valdez spill, looking at areas that were left alone, as well as at areas cleaned up chemically or mechanically.

"The chemically cleaned up areas have taken the longest to recover and they are still damaged," Boxall said. "The areas that were left alone actually recovered much quicker."

Some 10,000 people were flown in to deal with the Exxon Valdez spill, and Boxall said scientists now wondered whether the "cleanup town" that grew up around it caused more environmental damage than the oil itself.

Christoph Gertler of Bangor University, who has been studying various potential bacterial remedies for oil spills, said reports by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration suggested that dispersants were "changing the nature of the oil in a very unfavorable way," making it more difficult for naturally occurring marine bacteria to break it down.

Boxall said it was important to remember that oil coming from the BP well was a light crude that would break down and evaporate fairly quickly when it came to the surface.

He said there were three golden rules of oil spills:

"The first is don't spill it in the first place: the second is, if you do spill it, try and pick it up as quickly and easily as possible," he said. "And the third is that in the open ocean, the best thing to do is leave well alone. Unfortunately, politically that always looks like a cop-out."

Scientists agreed that the wetlands of Louisiana were the most sensitive areas at risk, but said that here again a light touch might be the safest solution.

"The more delicate an area is -- and many of these areas around the Gulf coast are very delicate -- the more significant is the risk of making things worse by acting," said Preston. That is to say, a whale torpedoing their boat, jumping up and landing on it. Previously its mostly been similar actions by Great White Sharks in South Africa, which have gained such attention. Video was shot off in the Ocean near the Mother City, Cape Town, apparently there was a couple on the boat, one would assume from the lack of mention of any fatalities that they survived the big whale of a surprise. Their trip certainly wasn't a white elephant. But the yacht may need repairs. South Africa is famous for whale watching, which the couple, says EuroNews no comment tv, were doing.

Earlier in the week, Kent Wells, a senior vice president for BP, had said that the longer the test continued the better, because it would indicate that the pressure inside the well was holding.

The oil stopped flowing around 2:25 p.m. Thursday when the last of several valves was closed on a cap at the top of the well, Mr. Wells said.

The announcement that the oil had stopped flowing into the Gulf came after a series of failed attempts to cap or contain the runaway well that tested the nation’s patience. Mr. Wells emphasized that pressure tests were being conducted to determine the status of the well, which is now sealed like a soda bottle. BP and the government could decide to allow the oil to flow again and try to collect all of it; they could allow the oil to flow and, if tests show the well can withstand the pressure from the cap, close the well during hurricanes; or they could leave the well closed permanently.

The last option seems unlikely, but whatever the decision, the cap is an interim measure until a relief well can plug the leak for good.

“I am very pleased that there’s no oil going into the Gulf of Mexico,” Mr. Wells said, “but we just started the test and I don’t want to create a false sense of excitement.”"
labelled as 17 / 07 | July / 2010

While getting good press from Catholic Agencies, for their use of Catholic Charties, an America Catholic arm of Caritas Internationalis, in order to help those affected, and for application of the principle of subsidiarity, BP has also gained international notoriety, for the use of chemical banned elsewhere to clean up the oil spill in the beginning. The chemicals are reportedly toxic to human beings, and British financial agency, Reuters was informed that it would have been better for the environment if the oil had simply been kept out to sea, as the burning and use of chemicals was not necessary to clear up the light grade of oils. BP had been listed on a stock exchange of companies acceptable for Christians to invest in (vetted by Vatican officials and others) prior the oil spill.

BP (British Petroleum) itself was not managing the oil rig at the time of the accident, having let it out to another company, the rig, being a vessel was not registered in America. BP's safety record in the past has also been questioned. The Obama administration, had decided not to further regulate the offshore drilling industry in the United States of America, in order to pursue Cap and Trade and other anthropological climate change theory efforts. The people most affected, seem to support continued drilling, as their livelihood often depends on oil. A ban on offshore drilling in the Gulf, which the White House desired, was ruled as against the public interest in an American court, something the White House chose to appeal.

South African Catholic News Service: Twitter|Facebook|Facebook Discuss|CAF|YouTube|UStream News|UStream Editorial That said, I believe that a transparent press, which shows both sides, giving correct weight to each is required at this time.

While doing so in a sustainable manner, and with mind to the effect economic legislation has on deaths due to poverty, I do think climate change should still be investigated with a cautious realization of its consequences if true, and the consequences to the economy if it is not man-made.</fieldset>

Following the hacking of many of the emails (reportedly seen as genuine by the BBC's climate change expert Paul Hudson [so claims the Daily Mail (UK based; Independent; Secular) 26 / 11 | November / 2009]) which were sent by prominent Climate Change scientists throughout the world, in which some top scientists' behaviour for whatever reason, seems to hint at a more activist stance, than at raw scientific endeavour, it has now emerged, that the major collection of original data, on which the claim of the existence of man-made climate change largely is based, that which was held by the University of East Anglia, which is now at the centre of a transparency scandal, was destroyed right back in the 1980s.

All that reportedly remains, is the altered data, now largely provided to the public by the University. This means that the major body of scientific proof of the existence of climate change due to carbon emissions, is secondary, and not based on original raw data. Without evidence of temperature records, it is hard to prove that there is a direct correlation between specific increases of carbon dioxide, and temperature levels. The world climate is thought to have heated up by just 0.8 degrees over the past 150 (One Hundred and Fifty) years due to Carbon Dioxide emissions. This based on the findings of the University of East Anglia, which has been avoiding requests for information.

The statistical calculations on climate change, specifically, those which correlate with fears of the effects of a 2 degrees Celsius increase in global temperature, cannot be based purely on melting ice caps, and the changes in sea temperature and perceived increase in natural disasters now being reported. With only processed data remaining, any errors by original compilers, could have a massive impact on the accuracy of calculations. Decisions, allegedly taken by scientists to quiet sceptics, and the reported involvement of the top University of East Anglia expert in this, do not lend credibility to their climate change research or statistics, of which the raw data no longer exists, and therefore cannot be peer reviewed.

While the so-called "ClimateGate" emails are getting a lot of attention in the press, what concerns me most about this situation, which I shall further explain now, involving the British University of East Anglia, is the recent release by the University, noted by The Times (UK based; Independent; Secular) 29 / 11 | November / 2009:

"SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.

It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.

The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.

The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.

The admission follows the leaking of a thousand private emails sent and received by Professor Phil Jones, the CRU’s director. In them he discusses thwarting climate sceptics seeking access to such data.

In a statement on its website, the CRU said: “We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.”

[...]

Jones was not in charge of the CRU when the data were thrown away in the 1980s, a time when climate change was seen as a less pressing issue. The lost material was used to build the databases that have been his life’s work, showing how the world has warmed by 0.8C over the past 157 years.

He and his colleagues say this temperature rise is “unequivocally” linked to greenhouse gas emissions generated by humans. Their findings are one of the main pieces of evidence used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which says global warming is a threat to humanity."

According to Bloomberg (Secular; independent; American; Article) 02 / 12 | December / 2009:

"Claims that scientists suppressed data about global warming prompted the head of a British university’s climate research center to step down until the completion of an investigation.

Phil Jones, a professor and director of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, U.K., will temporarily relinquish his post, the school said yesterday in a statement. Private e-mails from Jones were among thousands of pieces of correspondence between scientists debating climate change that were stolen and posted on the Internet last month.

The e-mails, dating back as far as 1996, have been cited by skeptics of man’s contribution to global warming as evidence of a conspiracy to manipulate data to support research. The Climatic Research Unit has said the e-mails were taken out of context and allegations of data manipulation are unfounded.

“They’re conspiring to keep papers out of published journals,” said Marc Morano, a climate skeptic who is editor of a Web site on the issue, referring to the leaked e-mails in a Nov. 24 interview. “You see them as nothing more than a bunch of activists manufacturing science for a political goal.”

Jones said the disclosure of the e-mails ahead of an international meeting on climate change in Copenhagen is an attempt to undermine measures to fight global warming.

“This may be a concerted attempt to put a question mark over the science of climate change in the run-up to the Copenhagen talks,” Jones said in a statement. “We are, and have always been, scrupulous in ensuring that our science publications are robust and honest.”"

While major press coverage has been given to the word "trick", which was used in the emails, and to discussions on how to avoid Freedom of Information requests, what is further concerning are claims, from the hacked versions of the emails, which prima facie reportedly show Phil Jones attempting to manipulate the peer review process, to quash the views of scientists who were less convinced of climate change.

An editorial in Bloomberg (Secular; Indpendent; American; Editorial) 02 / 12 | December / 2009 claims:

"The real issue here is one of trust and transparency -- values that apparently didn’t matter enough to Professor Phil Jones, the director of the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. The files made public Nov. 19 include a message from Jones asking other scientists to delete e-mails, apparently as a way of dodging requests under the U.K.’s Freedom of Information law.

Other e-mails discuss trying to oust a journal editor who published skeptical papers and preventing dissenting views from being published by the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. “I can’t see either of these papers being in the next IPCC report,” Jones wrote. “Kevin and I will keep them out somehow -- even if we have to redefine what the peer- review literature is!”"

It appears, that China's decision to set its first emission targets, as released prior the Copenhagen summit, is not as clear as originally seen, EuroNews claims, that the plan is pegged to China's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and therefore reportedly means no real reductions as long as China's economy grows. The US, whose president Barack Obama was thought to take Climate Change claims seriously, has based its own emission targets on 2005 levels, rather than on 1990 levels, a reduction which would not be enough, according to some scientists. India, meanwhile has refused any legally enforceable climate restrictions, while Africa's biggest polluter, South Africa, is set to build even more coal powered power plants to combat electricity shortages.

The Australian senate also, recently voted down a climate-change bill. It is feared by those believing in man-made climate change as a threat, that Copenhagen will not result in any enforceable limits.

Reply to us on twitter

As an internationally collaborative: initiative to provide a more transparent, accurate view of the world: This service is brought to you by the Scripturelink Search Engine (quotations, or confers in this service/initiative, are provided to give perspective independently, or reference some external sources: and do not imply collaboration, or any kind of affiliation, or co-operation with other services, or initiatives, which are quoted or noted in articles)

Check the accuracy, and perspectives of our contents via the above listed search engine: against other "Catholic" services

Subscribe to our articles via email:

Subscribe to South African Catholic

Add your email to our system to: subscribe to: "South African Catholic News Service"'s dispatches: via email

Email:

View Archives

Discuss our stories:
at our sub-forum on Catholic Answer Forums :

South African Catholic News Service (group)

Or Join us on Facebook

South African Catholic News Service

Or become a fan on Facebook:

South African Catholic News Service- Page - The majority of infrastructure, at least in the case of systems such as railways, on the African continent, is in one country: the Republic of South Africa, which itself does not spend enough on infrastructure in general.

<fieldset>The following will be a quotation (with paragraphing added), of the Vatican's Missionary News Service, Agenzia Fides, which notes a speech by the Roman Catholic Pontiff to a summit hosted by the the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. Opulence and waste are no longer acceptable when the tragedy of hunger is assuming ever greater proportions.” This is what the Holy Father Benedict XVI said in his address on November 26 at the FAO headquarters in Rome, on the opening of the World Summit on Food Security.

In his address, the Pope recalled that although “statistics bear witness to the dramatic growth in the number of people suffering from hunger,” it has also been confirmed that “the world has enough food for all its inhabitants” and that “there is no cause-and-effect relationship between population growth and hunger.” Reiterating what he had affirmed in his Encyclical Caritas in veritate, Benedict XVI mentioned that “the problem of food insecurity needs to be addressed within a long-term perspective, eliminating the structural causes that give rise to it and promoting the agricultural development of poorer countries,” and “the need to oppose those forms of aid that do grave damage to the agricultural sector, those approaches to food production that are geared solely towards consumption and lack a wider perspective, and especially greed, which causes speculation to rear its head even in the marketing of cereals, as if food were to be treated just like any other commodity.”

The Pontiff then reflected on the “weakness of current mechanisms for food security and the need to re-examine them,” highlighting that the concept of cooperation should be coherent with the principle of subsidiarity. “With regard to countries that are in need of external support, the international community has the duty to assist with the instruments of cooperation, assuming collective responsibility for their development,” the Pope said. “In this way, cooperation must become an effective instrument, unbeholden to interests that can absorb a not insignificant part of the resources destined for development.”

Benedict XVI also mentioned the risk of considering hunger “as structural, an integral part of the socio-political situation of the weakest countries, a matter of resigned regret, if not downright indifference.” “It is not so, and it must never be so!” the Pope exclaimed, saying that it was essential to “start redefining the concepts and principles that have hitherto governed international relations,” as “only in the name of common membership of the worldwide human family can every people and therefore every country be asked to practice solidarity, that is, to shoulder the burden of concrete responsibilities in meeting the needs of others, so as to favor the genuine sharing of goods, founded on love.”

To eliminate hunger, international action cannot limit itself to “international action is needed not only to promote balanced and sustainable economic growth and political stability, but also to seek out new parameters – primarily ethical but also juridical and economic ones – capable of inspiring the degree of cooperation required to build a relationship of parity between countries at different stages of development.”

In the second part of his address, the Holy Father indicated several necessary steps to take to combat hunger, promoting an integral human development: not view the rural world as something of secondary importance; favor access to the international market of products from the poorest areas; separate the rules of international trade from the logic of profit viewed as an end in itself. “Nor must the fundamental rights of the individual be forgotten, which include, of course, the right to sufficient, healthy and nutritious food, and likewise water; these rights take on an important role in the realization of others, beginning with the primary one, the right to life.”

Methods of food production likewise demand attentive analysis of the relationship between development and protection of the environment, as “the desire to possess and to exploit the resources of the planet in an excessive and disordered manner is the primary cause of all environmental degradation.” In this sense, the interaction between environmental protection and climate changes are further examined and the human person, especially the most vulnerable populations, are placed at the heart of both phenomena.

“Norms, legislation, development plans and investments are not enough, however: what is needed is a change in the lifestyles of individuals and communities, in habits of consumption and in perceptions of what is genuinely needed. Most of all, there is a moral duty to distinguish between good and evil in human action, so as to rediscover the bond of communion that unites the human person and creation,” the Pope warned.

In concluding his address, Benedict XVI mentioned the Church's commitment, without interfering in political decisions: “she respects the knowledge gained through scientific study, and decisions arrived at through reason responsibly enlightened by authentically human values, and she supports the effort to eliminate hunger. This is the most immediate and concrete sign of solidarity inspired by charity, and it brooks neither delay nor compromise.” (SL) (Agenzia Fides 17/11/2009)"

(Agenzia Fides / Fides Service (Catholic; Hierarchical; Vatican Based) 17 / 11 | November / 2009)

</fieldset>

South African Catholic News Service- Page - It has also been alleged in a report by MNET's Investigative: Carte Blanche, that an alleged obsession, by Eskom: with government BEE codes: whereby government companies are encouraged to do deals with ethnically black persons, over ethnically white persons, or companies with more ethnically black ownership, over companies with less ethnically "black" owners: has allegedly caused shortages in coal supply.

Citizens in the Republic of South Africa, have consistently had their power turned off, and their electricity rates raised at skyrocketing rates, as Eskom provides cheap electricity to foreign high consumption industrial business, despite millions in losses by local business, and industry, and as South Africa continues to supply electricity to the likes of Zimbabwe, and other African nations.

Attempts to build more nuclear plants locally, have also been wrought with accusations of bad practice on the part of Eskom. Further acusations, involving lack of competition, and the need for independent electricity suppliers, have also previously entered the fray.

Based on this, and past practice, it is therefore unlikely that the South African Government will change energy policies. To conclude our analysis of how important the notation by the WWF: of our high CO2 emissions possibly is.

The WWF, has no comment on how the current government locally is doing as regards the grouping's standards. They are reported as saying that it is too soon to tell.

Whether changes obeserved from the eighties until recently (with an odd seeming plateau allegedly seemingly being reached), in world climate, are caused by green house gases, or other events, is still not an issue, to our knowledge: which scientists globally agree on.

Add your email to our system to: subscribe to: "South African Catholic News Service"'s dispatches: In fact, charging per plastic bag, and discouraging single use bags: was tried before: right here in the Republic of South Africa.

Personally: I am not sure if it worked here, granted, our plastic bags are thicker (and in our case generally recyclable), and we have to buy them, and do buy less. At the same time, the apocalypse predicted by industry at the time it was introduced here, did not occur.

The Welsh Parliament, is reportedly considering forcing shoppers to buy every plastic shopping bag they use. Welsh Minister for the Environment, Sustainability and Housing, since June 2007: Jane Davidson, has suggestedthat shops charge, up to 15 pence, per shopping bag that a customer buys. At least part of the extra, the BBC reports: being gained, via levy, by the Welsh government.

Like in South Africa, where a similar initiative has already been put in place, the new plastic bags, will likely be multiple use bags, and probably thicker than current plastic bags. The applicable minister, seems to be affiliated with the Labour party. mass harvesting of whales, by commercial companies throughout the world, Whales, once again are entering a risky period. The outgoing head of the International Whaling Convention, has reportedly thought that it may be time to get rid of the ban on commercial whaling, while the incoming head, certainly seems to desire to cause anti-whaling nations and whalers to make compromises with each other(, which could be good or bad for whales): calling the current situation: unacceptable.

While the Whaling Ban (Commercial Whaling Moratorium of 1982), of the International Whaling Convention (IWC), is thought to be a safeguard, by many: for commercially threatened whales. Not so, says, William Hogarth, who was quoted, while he still chairs the International Body. He claims that as Japan's whaling is largely unregulated, as it is under the guise of scientific research, that getting rid of the ban on commercial whaling, would be, in his opinion a good thing.

While countries, such as Norway, and Japan, continue to whale, Norway, which has publicly objected to the moratorium, and declared itself exempt from the 1982 moratorium, and Japan, claiming that their whaling projects, are scientific. In general, the ban has previously been seen as a positive.

The Chair of the International Whaling Commission, suggests "limited", regulated commercial whaling: something the BBC suggests will go down well with the Japanese, accused of abusing the loophole in the moratorium, which allows whaling for "scientific" purposes. Why the Japanese would want a change, may seem odd. Editorially, it seems as though the current loopholes in the moratorium, give Japan legitimacy for their activities, perhaps they desire more legitimacy.

Native Communities, which traditionally hunt whales for food, are not prevented to do so under the moratorium. Nations such as Norway, or Iceland seemingly openly reject it. Japan: hunts whales, in the name of scientific research.

Using the same seas as Japan: Australia, has decided to do non-lethal research into whales.

Incoming International Whaling Convention head: Cristian Maquieira, claims that the difficulty of realizing a compromise is hard.

He has further: reportedly claimed:

""I feel if there's one common element involved here, it's that everybody believes the status quo is no longer acceptable,""

(BBC World News (Secular; Governmental; British) <a acceptable,""="" believes="" common="" element=""
